  • What are the STC and IIC acoustical ratings for my Trillium® floor? Go to the ACOUSTICS page for all acoustical information.
  • My condo association requires a certain acoustic performance, will Trillium® floors meet their requirements?  Yes, go to the ACOUSTICS page for all acoustical information.
  • What is the wood species of my Trillium® floor: European White Oak (Quercus Robur)
  • What is the Janka hardness of my Trillium® floor: 1360
  • Can I refinish my Trillium® floor in the future?  Yes, up to 2 times, however, it is highly unlikely you will ever need to, the 9 coat DurAlOx® finish is very tough and wear resistant.
  • Are Trillium® floors VOC free (volatile organic compound free)? Yes
  • Do Trillium® floors emit any formaldehyde? All Trillium floors are manufactured with Carb-2 compliant hardwood type plywood using ultra-low formaldehyde content glue.  All Trillium products meet and exceed the health and safety standards for Canada, USA & Europe.
  • What certifications do Trillium® floors carry?  FloorScore® & Carb-2.
  • Where can I buy Trillium® floors?  Trillium floors are exclusive to Costco Canada.
  • Are other colours of Trillium® available? Yes, they will be available by the end of 2021.

  • Can I install my Trillium® floor over an in-floor radiant heating system?  Yes, two general types of systems are approved: 
    • Circulating warm water 
    • Imbedded (in cement) electric systems.  
    • The system temperature must not exceed 28°C or 82°F.
  • Are Trillium® floors water resistant?  Yes, the finish is unaffected by moisture and the waxed profiles will repel liquids.  Simply wipe up any spills immediately with an absorbent cloth.
  • Can I install Trillium® floors in an unheated cottage or 3 season room?  Yes, Trillium floors are unaffected by low temperatures.
  • What kind of finish is on Trillium® floors?  Trillium floors are finished with a 9 coat DurAlOx®SupperMatt UV cured poly urethane finish that contains Aluminum Oxide for enhanced scratch and wear resistance.
  • Can I repair my floor if I scratch it?  Yes, scratches can be minimized by one of the following methods:
  • Can I install Trillium® floors outside?  No, Trillium floors are only intended for indoor installations.
  • What should I use to clean and maintain my Trillium floor?  Use a “hardwood floor cleaner” such as BONA® or SWIFFER® brand or similar “non-surfactant type hardwood floor cleaner.  
  • Can I install my Trillium ® floor in commercial or office environment?  Yes, they are approved for installation in light commercial and office applications.  The floor must be glued down since the traffic volume and performance demands of the floor are more intensive.
  • Can I install my Trillium® floor over top of preexisting hardwood, laminate, vinyl, tile or stone floors?  Yes, however, the existing floor must be smooth and flat.  If you are installing over top of tile or stone, you do not need to fill the grout lines.  Any broken tiles should be glued or patched.  Follow the steps and requirements noted in the installation guide.
  • Can I nail-down my Trillium® floor?  Yes, this is possible; follow the steps below:
    • Do not install an under-pad of any type when nailing down.  The floor must be nailed directly to the wooden sub-floor (plywood or OSB).
    • Nail-down using a brad type nailer or stapler with 1 ¼” or 1 ½” long brads or staples.  
    • Brads or staples should be inserted through the larger lower flange on the female side of the planks, angle them at approx. 15°.
    • Space the brads or staples every 8” to 12” (200 to 300mm), keeping them no closer than 1” (25mm) from the ends of the planks.
    • Adjust the air pressure on your compressor so that the brads or staples are neither set too deeply or sitting high.  They should be flush or slightly countersunk.
  • Can I glue-down my Trillium® floor?  Yes, follow the steps below:
    • Follow all the requirements noted in the installation guide.
    • Do not install an under-pad of any type when gluing down.  The floor must be glued directly to the wooden sub-floor (plywood or OSB) or concrete.
    • Use one of the following approved moisture cured urethane adhesives and follow all of their instructions: 
      • ROBERTS: R1509 Urethane
      • TAYLOR: MS PLUS Wood Flooring Adhesive 
      • DRITAC 7500 Eco-Urethane
      • DriTac Easy Spread 7400 
      • DriTac 7700 4-in-1 Easy Clean
      • MAPEI Ultrabond 980 (residential and light commercial use)
      • MAPEI Ultrabond 990 (commercial use) MS Polymer Ultra Green 
      • MAPEI Ultrabond ECO 995

  • What humidity level should I keep my home at to best maintain my hardwood floor?  The optimal relative humidity (RH%) range is 35% to 50%, it should be maintained year round.  A central humidifier is the best solution during the heating season, however, you can also use a medium to large sized portable humidifier depending on the size of your home.
  • Can I install my kitchen cabinets and island over top of my Trillium floor? No. Note that many people do it without ever encountering a problem, however we are not recommending it.
  • Can I install my refrigerator or other appliances over top of my Trillium floor?  Yes, however, we recommend you install protective felts or pads under the feet of the appliances to prevent them from marking the floor.
  • In basement installations, can I install my Trillium floor over top of a “dimpled membrane” like DMX® or  similar, or alternatively over top of a rigid sub-floor panel with a dimpled membrane like DriCore®, Barricade®, THERMOSMART® or similar?  Yes, follow all recommendations in the Trillium installation guide, as well as the installation guide of the membrane or panel manufacturer.
